Burnaby, B.C. – The second edition of the Pat Quinn Classic U15 Elite Invitational has wrapped up with a dominant performance by Little Caesars 14U Detroit. The Michigan team was undefeated in the tournament to win Flight 1 with a 6-1 victory in the final against Northern Alberta Xtreme U15 Prep.
The Detroit team, coached by former Vancouver Canuck Ryan Kesler, scored lopsided victories against every opponent through its five games in the tournament. Even with the strong results, Kesler says the level of play was closer than the scores showed. And he appreciates the opportunity for his players to experience new teams and different arenas. “We play the same 10 or 15 teams all year long,” says Kesler. “The ability to play against some high-level talent that we normally would never see is fun for the kids.”
Kesler is coaching his son Ryker who also likes the opportunity to share the West Coast with his teammates. “The team loves it here,” says Ryker. “It’s where I was born, so coming back here has been amazing.”
In Flight 2, the U15 AAA Vancouver North West Hawks from North Vancouver beat Pacific Coast Hockey Academy U15 Prep from Victoria, B.C 5-3 to win the title.
The 2024 Pat Quinn Classic U15 Elite Invitational featured 23 teams from B.C., Alberta and the US.
