Burnaby, B.C. –Excellence on the ice, community service and quality education are fundamentals of the Pat Quinn classic – fundamentals that are shared by the Northern Alberta Xtreme (NAX) hockey program. Located in Devon, southwest of Edmonton, the mission of the NAX program is to foster a culture of excellence, integrity and passion, both on and off the ice.
Northern Alberta Extreme (CSSHL Prep) is one of 23 teams competing in the 2024 Pat Quinn Classic U15 Elite Invitational. “It’s a good competition and competitive,” says Adam Stuart, U15 Prep Head Coach and NAX One Director. “I like that there are American teams here as we know many of the other teams from BC as they from our league.”
He says the tournament is great opportunity to showcase the work ethic of his players. “We work with high-end athletes, good kids from blue collar families. We push them to reach their goals every day. We put a great emphasis on character. You can’t just be a good hockey player.”
While many of the teenaged players may not know about the legacy of Pat Quinn, Stuart says coaches “try to give them hockey history. It’s a different generation. We try to inform them as best we can about the founding fathers of hockey.”
For many members of the Northern Alberta team, this is their first time on the West Coast. “We have a lot of small-town farm boys on our team. It’s nice for them,” he says. “They like the weather, that’s for sure as it’s a lot colder where we are from. But, once you are in the rink and the puck drops, it’s hockey.”

About the Pat Quinn Classic U15 Elite Invitational
The Pat Quinn Classic U15 Elite Invitational was created in 2023 as a standalone tournament. It builds on the legacy of the Pat Quinn Classic annual holiday season tournament. Hosted in Burnaby, Coquitlam and Delta from November 14 to 17, 2024, the U15 Elite Invitational promises a high-level hockey experience for players, coaches and fans.
