Burnaby, B.C.  \u2013 More than half of the 16 teams at the third edition of the Pat Quinn Classic U15 Elite Invitational are from outside of the Lower Mainland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This year\u2019s tournament includes teams from Texas, California, Idaho, Washington, Alberta, Northern B.C. and Vancouver Island.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI\u2019ve been here since day 1 [of the Pat Quinn Classic],\u201d says Mirsad Mujcin, head coach of the U15 Cariboo Cougars<\/a> from Prince George. \u201cIt\u2019s a pretty \u2018hockey culture\u2019 tournament with a lot of big names. It\u2019s great to reunite with coaches I used to play with back in the day.\u201d  Three of his Prince George players are first-time participants in this tournament. \u201cThis is a big one for them. Their eyes are wide open.\u201d He says his players are getting a great experience at the event. \u201cIt comes down to watching good teams compete and what it takes to win. That\u2019s what you gain from a tournament like this.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is the second time at the U15 Elite Invitational for the Cougars\u2019 Ryland Lemp (LW). \u201cI think it\u2019s a great tournament. It is well put together with great competition as well.\u201d He appreciates the opportunity to play teams they don\u2019t see in Northern B.C. \u201cIt brings a greater work ethic and helps us develop our game a lot.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is the second year in a row at the U15 Elite Invitational for the Idaho\u2019s Coeur D\u2019Alene (CDA) Hockey Academy<\/a>. \u201cIt brings talent from California, to the Lower Mainland all the way up to P.G. and Alberta,\u201d says Head Coach Tysen Azevedo. \u201cFor us, it\u2019s a local-ish tournament, drivable for us. This gives the kids a variety of competition. And the tournament does a great job for the players being able to be scouted or recruited.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a great experience being able to play all of these teams,\u201d says CDA Goalie Bo Toperosky. \u201cIt\u2019s really cool to play teams we don\u2019t usually play in our regular league. I\u2019m grateful to have this opportunity.\u201d When learning about Pat Quinn\u2019s commitment to on-and off-ice excellence, Toperosky says that\u2019s the focus of his academy. \u201cIt\u2019s incredible. It\u2019s exactly what he wanted. It\u2019s hockey, it\u2019s a school, it\u2019s a workout.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Pat Quinn Classic U15 Elite Invitational continues this weekend at the Burnaby Winter Club, Planet Ice Coquitlam and Planet Ice Delta with the finals for the two flights set for Sunday morning at the Burnaby Winter Club, starting at 10 a.m. The schedule and results are available here<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n
